Recap: DC Counter Culture Festival 2010

Last Sunday Curls Studio exhibited at the fifth annual DC Counter Culture Festival. This year RFD in Chinatown was a new venue to us. Previous incarnations of the Fest were at the now defunct Dr. Dremo's and The Soundry. I think DC Conspiracy wanted a venue that was metro accessible this year.

The Fest was a good time because we got to catch up with local creators while selling comics and eating cheese fries. There were also DJs, a sideshow performer (Mab, Just Mab) and a bellydancer (Eugenia).


I got to participate in my first Super Art Fight, which was super fun! You can watch the bout Joe filmed above of Jamie Noguchi vs myself. The match MC is Rosscott, who happens to also be the winner of my Curls Twitter Contest I ran last February. I met him for the first time last month at Crafty Bastards and he is very active in the DC area art scene and teaches at American University.

This Sunday is DC Counter Culture Festival

Curls Studio will be at the fifth DC Counter Culture Festival this Sunday. It is our fifth appearance at this show, which means we are five time champions, like Booker T.

Join us this Sunday, October 24th from noon to 8PM at RFD's (810 7th Street, NW Washington, DC 20001). Admission is FREE.

This year the DC Counter Culture Festival will feature a live performance by: Mab, Just Mab - DC's Own Sideshow Girl

Bellydancing by: Eugenia

DJ Sets from: Ian Hall, Shannon Stewart, Beth Greenberg, and Corrosion Radio featuring smytii and dj Balti

Recap: DC Counter Culture Festival 2009

On Sunday, May 24, 2009 Curls Studio participated in the fourth annual DC Counter Culture Festival at The Soundry in Vienna, VA. We had a lot of fun catching up with fellow comic creators and meeting new ones. This year there were ongoing presentations and workshops such as Michael Auger's Blacklight Workshop, The Geek Comedy Tour, and Gyotaku Fish Printing with Anthony Dihle. We all got involved in quick jam sketches and ate hotdogs and burgers from The Soundry. I really enjoyed the eclectic nature of this years event, but 12 hours of table time made for a long day!


Viva Vienna was going on down the street at the same time so I headed there for a bit and got a Bucket O' Fries. What is better than a bucket of fries that says "Bucket O' Fries" on the actual bucket? I don't think there is anything better than that. DC Counter Culture Festival

Last Saturday was the DC Counter Culture Festival at Dr. Dremo's. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to look or purchase something from our table and thanks to everyone who came in support of Curls Studio. We appreciate it! Thanks also goes out to DC Conspiracy, who organized the event.

DC Counter Culture Festival

The third installment of the DC Counter Culture Festival is this Saturday, January 19th! Curl Studio has represented for the past two years and is glad to be back for a third... and the last at the venue of Dr. Dremo's, since they will be closing soon.

Curls Studio will be selling our goodies from 4PM until 8PM along with 38 vendors of comics, fashions, crafts, novellas, soaps, musics, and more. The party doesn't stop there. After 8PM we'll have a freak show, belly dancer, and six bands. This is the place to be this Saturday. We had close to 500 people show up last year and we’d rather tear Dr. Dremo’s down this year than have the construction company do it a week later. Feel free to pass this message on to you friends, family, or co-workers... everyone's invited, but you must be over 21 to stay past 8PM.

See you on Saturday! Admission is FREE!
