Kid Roxy #2: The Mystery of the Bouncing Ball

Curls Studio will be unveiling the second Kid Roxy book at New York Comic Con on April 18-20, 2008.

Here is a teaser of the story:

Kid Roxy’s first mystery begins here! “The Mystery of the Bouncing Ball” Episode 1 of 5 starts with our superhero… Wait… What? Our superhero? Isn’t Kid Roxy about a girl who grows up to become a world famous career criminal? Yes, but everyone has to start somewhere.

In Twilight Valley, the Sadie Hawkins dance is coming up, and everyone is losing their minds! Debbie, Roxy Monroe’s new loose cannon friend believes it will lead to the death of us all. And who’s to blame her? In Twilight Valley, dances do something to people. It messes with their brains, causes them to act irrationally. But what is it about this dance that causes mysterious accidents to happen at Shirley Walker Secondary School?

Roxy Monroe, on the other hand, has branded her twin sister, Trixie, a sell out and she continues to battle the forces of evil that are Trixie’s friends, Ashley and Stephanie. Along the way, Roxy realizes that Twilight Valley, and its people, are more than what you see on the surface. This town has its own mysteries to be dug up.

I'd Rather Die

Since I haven't posted in awhile, I figured... maybe I should. I've been working on the second issue of Kid Roxy. It's gonna rock when it's done. Here is a teaser sketch featuring Roxy and her friend, Debbie.

Joe's Direction:
Our final shot lands on Roxanne and Debbie still looking up at the speakers in the cafeteria. Roxy actually looks possibly interested in going to the dance. Debbie not so much.

ROXANNE
Have you ever been to a dance, Debbie?

DEBBIE
I’d rather die.

Kid Roxy #1 "The Best Days of Our Lives" can be purchased here and comes with Black Magic Tales #1 "24 Hour Fries."

A Toast to Memento Pmonk

I'm delighted to announce that the Toast silkscreen print I donated to Memento Pmonk: An Art Auction For The P3 Fund went for $155. Way to go Toast!

Photos: Crafts & Kisses 2008

Be sure to check out our photos from last Sunday's event, Crafts & Kisses. Most of the photos were taken during set-up, so they don't show how large the turnout was. It was a huge success, with over 500 visitors stopping in to check out the goods. Curls Studio had a great time there and did very well, especially with our line of greeting cards. We were the only vendors offering comics, so it was great to represent comics in the DC arts scene!
