Smudge! Comics Arts Expo is March 8, 2014

The first-ever Smudge! Comics Arts Expo is coming up on March 8, 2014 at Artisphere in Arlington, Virginia from Noon to 6 PM. Artisphere is the same location that hosted the Magic Bullet Comics Making Studio exhibit last fall. This event looks to shine as the exhibitor list is impressive and there are special programs and hands-on activities for the whole family. Did I mention it's free? Yes. Free. You should be there. I'll be there! Hope to see you at the Curls Studio table and please pick up a free issue of Magic Bullet #8, Washington, DC's comics newspaper anthology. Many of the local comic contributors will be there.

Recap: Comics Making Studio at Artisphere

On the evening of Thursday, September 12, 2013 Joe Carabeo and Carolyn Belefski collaborated on the chalkboard wall in the Works in Progress Gallery for their artist residency at "Comics Making Studio" exhibit at Artisphere in Arlington, Virginia.

For their experiment called "Animal Chronicles" Joe came up with an animal and an object, then Carolyn drew each combination on the wall - for example, Fox/Harmonica or Cat/Lawnmower. In about three hours, twenty combinations and sketches were created. Each drawing was only up for a brief time period, then erased over and a new sketch appeared in the same place on the chalk wall. The exhibit space also featured original art for Magic Bullet, Washington, DC's comics newspaper. Attendees were also encouraged to create their own comic and had access to take the past two issues of Magic Bullet home with them.

Comics Making Studio at Artisphere: Carolyn Belefski, Joe Carabeo, and Andy Warhol

Join us this coming Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Artisphere (1101 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, VA) in the Works in Progress Gallery. Carolyn Belefski and Joe Carabeo will be working LIVE on a large chalkboard and on paper from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM (or maybe longer)!

In addition, on this day you can also be present for the opening reception of the Andy Warhol "Silver Clouds" exhibit, which is located at the gallery next door. The reception is from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

Andy Warhol is Joe's arch-nemesis, so in this case they will battle again at the same time, same place. Be there to see the showdown! Both events are free.

Magic Bullet Exhibit at Artisphere

D.C. Conspiracy members will be showcasing original Magic Bullet art at Artisphere in Arlington, VA from August 21 thru November 3 in the Works in Progress Gallery. There will be a meet and greet on September 21 from 6 PM to 8 PM where you will be able to connect with many of us in-person and I plan on being there. Major props to Matt Dembicki and Evan Keeling for being instrumental in organizing the exhibit.

Also worth mentioning since today is Andy Warhol's birthday, Artisphere will also be showcasing a Warhol exhibit during some of the same timeframe as the Magic Bullet exhibit and comics making studio. So that means our work will be alongside Warhol!
